Although we weren't related by blood, she was always Auntie Lois to me. She and my mother went to Berlin, Japan and Saudi together. When I visited in June of 2014, she showed me letters of those times that she had written to her parents. It was Betty (my mother) and I did this or that, helping cloth the Germans without homes after the war, to climbing Mt Fuji. Being with her brought my mother back to life. No doubt they are having another adventure in the afterlife. She will be sorely missed.

In 1973 Lois and I met when I called her to express my appreciation of a letter she had written to the editor of "The Milwaukee Journal." We became good friends and attended many interesting lectures and talks together. Over the years, as I moved to Beirut and later London, we stayed in touch. Whenever I was in Wisconsin, we would manage to get together. Lois was just an extraordinary person and she clearly left her mark.
