Lois May WOLFRUM

1925 - 2016

WOLFRUM, Lois May (Age 90) Passed away January 4, 2016 in Spokane, WA. She was born to Bert and Gussie Wolfrum in Milwaukee, WI in 1925. At the age of 19, she left home to work in San Francisco and returned home a few years later and worked at General Mitchell airfield where she took flying lessons "because everyone else was doing it too." She soloed just one time and said that once was enough. She led an adventurous life as work assignments took her around the world. She lived in Berlin during the Airlift, working as a civilian for the United States armed forces. From Germany she went to Japan then on to Saudi Arabia where she worked for ARAMCO (Arabian-American Oil Company), then on to New York for an international investment banking firm on Wall Street then back to Saudi for ten more years. She returned to Milwaukee in 1973 to care for her ailing parents. She established her own business called MEMCON (Middle East Media Consultants) which gave talks and slide presentations about life in Arabia. She finished out her career in the marketing field with the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District. Lois stated that working in the sewage field was her favorite job because it was turning a negative into a positive. She carried that philosophy throughout her entire life. Skiing the Alps, dancing in Paris, climbing Mt. Fujiyama, cruising the Nile, shopping in Hong Kong, wandering ancient Petra, hopping freighters, trekking the Himalayas, safari trips in East Africa, casbahing in Morocco, and snorkeling in the Red Sea are listed among the many remembrances in her life. Lois was known for her kind and open heart, her amazing photography, her long legs, deep intellect, generosity, an incredibly stylish wardrobe, her sense of class, and always willing to lend an ear to whoever needed it. And who could forget that sense of humor. She is survived by her dear and favorite brother (her only one!) Bert (Betty) Wolfrum of Spokane, WA; nephews Burt (Kim) Wolfrum of Grangeville, ID, and John Wolfrum of Fairbanks, AK; nieces Mary (Joe) DeStaffney of Conrad, MT and Julie Wolfrum of Spangle, WA; great- nephews Nathan Horton, Andrew Horton, Frank Wolfrum, Silas Wolfrum; great-nieces Megan Horton, Katrina Wolfrum, and Anna Wolfrum; and two very special god-daughters Alyson Gehling and Heather Boedecker of Milwaukee, WI. At the family's request, there will be no memorial service. Contributions may be made in her name to the charity of your choice.
