Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel - Hillsville Obituary

Lonnie Wayne Marshall, 90 of Woodlawn, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at his home.  Mr. Marshall was born in Carroll County, Virginia to the late Canada and Notre Dame Shaw Marshall.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary C. Marshall; daughter, Mary J. Marshall; son, Wayne Ray Marshall (Sandra); and siblings, C.A. Marshall, Joe Marshall, Monroe Marshall, Vesta Quesenberry, and Frances Marshall.


Lonnie worked for the highway department for 26 years and was a cattle farmer.  In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, playing cards and watching baseball.  He also loved spending time with his family. 


Survivors include his daughter, JoAnn Marshall Johnson (Warren); grandchildren, Brandon Johnson (Adrianna), Dustin Johnson (Caitlin), Jared Johnson (Haley), Jesse Marshall (Stacy), and Heather Danison (Robby); ten great-grandchildren; brother, Roy Truman Marshall (Jeannie); sisters, Elaine Marshall Baker and Jane Marshall; and several nieces and nephews.  


Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 12:00 PM with Pastor Wendell Horton officiating.  Burial will follow in the Worrell Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM, prior to the funeral service.  Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.

Lonnie kept cattle on this piece of land for many years and mowed this steep hill. No one doubted his abilities on a tractor! He and all the Marshall family are remembered as dear friends to the Beamer family. The Rufus Beamer family sends our condolences to Elaine, Truman, Jane and all of Lonnie’s family.

You were my big brother and now you are gone. How I wish that were not true. I will hold you in my heart forever and I am already missing you.
