Will never forget how helpful Dr Schmidtberger was to me in St Peter´s College. As an English major I had him for a number of English courses. He introduced me to one of his favorites: William Faulkner. Also helped me adjust to civilian life after a tour of duty in Viet Nam as an US Army infantryman.

I´m so honored to have spent time with Mr. Schmidtberger during his trips to Los Angeles. His warmth and his wit are reflected in his offspring. I´m so grateful I was able to meet the man who raised my most precious lifelong friend in his daughter, Mary.

I remember the first time Loren joined our Memoir writing class at Cedar Crest. When he finished reading his piece, there was silence. His words took my breath away: simple yet profound, serious and funny. When people express an interest in writing a memoir, I always recommend reading The Beginner´s Cow first. A gentle, modest friend who will be missed. Condolences to family and all those who loved Loren.

Loren was a colleague of mine at Saint Peter´s. He was kind, generous in his advice and quick to laugh. Sincere sympathies to his children. He was much loved by his university family, too.
