In the twinkling of an eye, Lorenzo Brown was called to his heavenly home by the Master on June 7, 2022. Born on February 28th, 1949, to the late Leslie and Bernice Jackson Brown in Newport News, Lorenzo will always be remembered for his daily wake up mantra, “Thank you Lord for another day.” His commitment to the Lord began through baptism at the United House of Prayer for all People.
Lorenzo attended Newport News Public Schools, graduating from Huntington High School, Class of 1967. Following graduation, Lorenzo enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving on the USS Independence as an Aviation Electrician. Upon his Honorable Discharge from the Navy, Lorenzo became a Newport News Police Officer and attended Thomas Nelson Community College. Using his skills and certifications from the Navy, he was employed at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock (X31) and Dominion Nuclear Power Station as a Nuclear Electrician, retiring in 2004.
He was married to Izzie Roundtree Brown and from their union, they were blessed with two sons, Lorenzo Nicholas Brown, of Charlotte, North Carolina, Morgan Wilson Brown of Newport News, and one granddaughter, Elise Nicole Brown. Raised with the spirit of true brotherly love, Lorenzo is also survived by three brothers, Ronald Lee Brown, Leslie Ray Brown (Patricia), and Darrell Brown (Sharon). His extended family includes Brother-in-Law, Vincent Roundtree (Joyce), and Sisters-in-Law, Kathy R. Lebby and Connie R. Sawyer (Larry). He leaves to cherish him many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Lorenzo was an avid chess player and a voracious reader. He used his musical talents playing the sousaphone with the House of Prayer Band, The Huntington High School Marching Vikings and the United States Navy Band. His hearty laugh and jovial sense of humor will be missed by all.
A Celebration of Life will be held 12:00 P.M. Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Nickelson and Cummings Funeral Home.
