Loretta J. Massey, age 64, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at Stormont Vail Hospital. Loretta was born September 9, 1955 in Topeka, the daughter of Glenn and Lucille Holmes. She attended Highland Park High School. She married Joseph Degan, Sr, they later divorced. She married Robert Massey Jr., April 13, 1990 in Topeka. She worked at Stormont Vail Hospital and later at Southwest Caging. Loretta was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Brent Jaynes, Bobby Joe Degan-Harness and Tanner Burkey and a brother, Gary Holmes. She is survived by her husband of over 29 years, Robert; a son, Joseph Degan, Jr. of Topeka; three daughters, Kayla (Frank) Jaynes of Burlingame, KS, Angie (Jarret) Burkey of Auburn, KS, and Heather (Jonathan) Miller of Topeka; a stepbrother, Danny Deever of Missouri; four sisters, Glenda (Denzel) Eslinger of Ironton, MN, Ivah (Paul) Holland, Gayle (Danny White) Brown and Nancy (Jimmy) Rose, all of Topeka; 14 grandchildren, Casey, Alissa, Kylie, Chelsea, Jordan, Jayde, Haley, Jacob, Ethan, Rylie, Braden, Ashlynn, Brennan and Liam, and four great grandchildren, Parker, Brayson, Taisley and Gracyn. Loretta enjoyed fishing, dancing, playing cards and especially spending time with her family.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home. She will lie in state Monday from noon – 8:00 p.m. with visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Rochester Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka Rescue Mission or the Helping Hands Humane Society and left in care of the Davidson Funeral Home. davidsonfuneral.com.
