I graduated from Empire Elementary School (in 1955) and Downey High School (in 1959) with Gayle Smith, as she was known then. We were not friends, but I remember her. I read her obituary with interest. Although I grew up in Empire, I have not lived in California since 1968. Have lived in Iowa, Ohio and Virginia for the past 41 years. Blessings on Gayle's family.
