The world lost a valiant spirit, Lorna Measom Davis, on December 6, 2010. She died in her home surrounded and cared for by her loving family. This remarkable woman through her example showed us how to live, how to laugh, how to cry and how to love. Her life was filled with service and love for everyone. She faced many trials in her life, she faced them valiantly, learned from them and then chose to live a full happy life. Lorna was born April 18, 1933 in Lake Shore to Jennings (Ty) and Leanora Francis Measom. She was raised in a loving family on a farm where she learned the value of hard work. She married Harold Earl Davis in the Salt Lake Temple they are the parents of 10 children. Lorna and Harry raised their family in Salem, a city they both served and loved. She was recognized for her service by receiving Salem’s Volunteer of the Year, Women of Achievement, and her family was chosen as Family of the Year. Lorna worked alongside Harry, and together they built a successful business, H. E. Davis and Sons. He managed the field operations and she ran the office from her kitchen table. But her most important role was that of Mother and wife a role she deeply treasured. Mom loved little children, she was everyone’s grandmother. Her favorite time was when her house was filled with the joyful sounds of children. She loved music and would sing as she washed the dishes, hung the wash, and swept the floor. She served as Primary song leader for years. Mom said "I enjoyed my church callings where I learned to love the youth and the older people. I enjoyed teaching and studying which enabled me to gain a testimony of the restoration of the Gospel and appreciate and love of the Savior and His atonement." She served in the Young Women and in the Relief Society, as Relief Society President she loved the older sisters daily walking through the ward visiting them. She made loaves of bread that she shared with everyone in town and that legacy lives on as she shared her bread making skills with many others. She loved to bottle fruit and vegetables, “if it will fit in a bottle I’ll put it there. She loved her home, with Salem pond in her back yard, her good neighbors, and many friends that were always welcome in her home. She loved and accepted everyone but with Lorna you always knew where you stood. She will be missed by her children Karen and Craig Larsen, Nadene and Jon Cope, Earl and Marian Davis, Stan and Michelle Davis, Sandra and Pat Doty, Brent Davis, and daughter-in-law Judy Davis, son-in-law Farris (Janae) Bowler. She was greeted by her deceased children Sherry, Duane, Hanna Bowler, and Milo, as well as her beloved husband Harry and her parents. Mom will be most missed by her 27 Grandchildren and 38 Great-grandchildren. They all loved her and knew they were her favorite. She is survived by her sisters DeeAnn (Sterling) Swenson, June (Lynn) Houtz, and brother Kent and (Connie) Measom, sisters-in-law Louise Measom, Barbara Davis, and brother-in-law Kent ( Lois) Davis. Deceased are brothers Rex Measom, Job Measom, and sister Frances Stone, brothers-in-law Chester Davis, Carlos Davis, Clyde Davis, Leland Davis, and sister-in-law Florence Valgardson. Mom loved to walk. She would tell us how she missed not being able to go for walks at the ranch to enjoy the autumn leaves, the deer, the elk and the turkeys. Well Mom, now you can. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Salem Main Street LDS Chapel, 60 S. Main Street, Salem, Utah. Family and friends may call on Thursday evening, December 9th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Walker Mortuary, 187 S. Main Street, Spanish Fork, or on Friday morning at the church from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Salem City Cemetery.
