Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc. - Hellertown Obituary

Lorna June Rummel, 88, of Williams Township, passed away peacefully at home on September 25th, 2023 surrounded by her beloved family. Lorna “June” was born on August 23, 1935 in Bloom Township to Michael Varga and Phyllis Elaine Bloom at the home of her maternal grandparents Wilbur and Emma Bloom. From a young age, June started working at a corner store a couple blocks from her home in Rahway, NJ. Little did June know that at this shop, she would meet and later marry her first love, the late Edward Conner of Lexington, VA. They were happily married for 41 years and together had one daughter Susan Kim.

Due to her excellent academic record, June was accepted to Newark Presbyterian School of Nursing. She started her career at Rahway Hospital in 1958. She quickly advanced to Supervisor and Director of Perioperative Services. She retired in 2003 after 45 dedicated years.

June was a devout Christian woman whose life revolved around her family and church. In her past years, she was the youth group leader along with her husband Ed at New Durham Chapel in Piscataway, NJ, for numerous years. Together they shared their passion for Christ and moved to Grampian, PA where they became members of the Greenville Church of the Brethren. Sadly, Ed passed away in 1999. June later met her
second husband, the late Reverend Dale Rummel at this church. Dale passed away in 2021.

In the early 2000s, June was determined to find a church for her daughter and grandkids. She discovered St. John’s Church on Morgan Hill, attended, and influenced her family to become members. June met so many wonderful individuals within the St. John’s Church family who touched her personally. Proudly, her family still serves as members of St. John’s Church on Morgan Hill in Williams Township, PA.

June was a Master Crocheter and there are many individuals who have been given afghans and other items that she made. She lived her life by the biblical axiom, “It is more blessed to give than to receive”, often times going without things she needed, in order to provide for someone else. Throughout June’s life, she had family, friends, and even strangers come to her in their time of need. She would always welcome them with open arms, providing them with a place to call home, and gave them anything else that they might need.

June is survived by her beloved daughter, Susan Kim Pope and husband Rory Pope of Williams Township, PA. Two sisters, Emma Lee McNeil of Jacksonville, FL, Hazel Nakahara and husband Sho Nakahara of Macungie, PA, and one brother, Loren M. Varga of Franklin Park, NJ. In addition are her much beloved grandchildren, Joshua Pope, Michael Pope and fiancée, Kirsten Kels, Madison Pope and fiancé Michael Cavanaugh, and Katie Pope, her “Earthly Angel”.

Also her well loved nieces, nephews, and cousins of Pennsylvania, Florida, Virginia, and Maryland.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date and will be held at both St. John’s Church on Morgan Hill and the Greenville Church of the Brethren where interment will take place. Not sure what to say?

Sending my deepest sympathy! May She Rest In Peace!
I had the pleasure of working with June at Rahway Hospital. She was my Director in the Operating Room. I attended June’s second Wedding and drove out to Pennsylvania with Gladys Person and Anna Kushner! It was very nice to visit a place that June loved! Because of that visit, I truly appreciated June’s essence!
Warm Regards, Joanne Wilkinson
