Lee – Lorraine T. Chase, of North Road, died with family by her side at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, in Brentwood, on Saturday, September 16, 2006.
Lorraine was born on July 28, 1914 in Hill, NH to Leslie and Jean (Wallace) Straw. She graduated from Manchester Central High School in 1932 and furthered her education with nurse’s training. Lorraine used her nursing skills for home cases and in various care facilities during her younger years. She was a loving mother and wife and a good friend to many people and always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Lorraine resided in Durham for 31 years before moving to Lee in 1990 where she lived until her move to Brentwood in 2003. She was a Girl Scout Leader, worked at Red Cross Blood drives in Durham, and was a volunteer at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. She was a member of the Community Church of Durham where she formerly taught Sunday School and was a member of the Church Guild. She was a member and served as president and held other offices of both the Bourgoin-Reardon American Legion Auxiliary Unit #94 and the Durham Women’s Club.
Lorraine was predeceased by her husband, Arthur A. Chase in 1996, two daughters, Janet Shafer in 2000, and Nancy Tandy in 2003, one grandson, Stephen A. King, two great grandchildren, Jared Shafer, and Savannah O’Connor, and a sister Lois Wallace Lewis. She is survived by six children, Marilyn King and her husband Robert of Limestone ME, Herbert Chase and his wife Carole of Midlothian VA, Beverly Diers and her husband Royal of McPhearson KS, Kathleen McAnney of Pittsfield, Deborah Archambeault of Rochester, and Sheryl Rosa and her husband Gary of Newmarket; two sons-in-law Maurice Tandy, Sr. of Wells ME and Joe Shafer of Lee; 19 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren; 3 special nieces and one special nephew.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 24, at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Community Church of Durham with The Reverend Mary Westfall officiating. Burial with Graveside Services will be held in the Durham Cemetery.
