Lorraine Jeanette Greer, 72, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2011, in Chilhowie, Va. Mrs. Greer was born in Glade Spring, Va., to the late Elmer and Edna Gardner Blevins. She was a graduate of the Johnston Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at Lee Memorial Hospital and Smyth County Community Hospital Marion for over 30 years. Mrs. Greer was a member of the Grosses Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Dallas Greer; one son, Tim Greer, of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, Kenneth Blevins, of Winter Park, Fla.; several nieces and nephews to include Karen Braddock, Heather Cooke, Karen Kent, Angie Collins, Mike Greer, and Jackie Greer ; special friends, Dee Crouse, Sara Crouse, Rose Lambert, Shirley Godwin, and Donnie Combs; and special pet, Jasper. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mary Ann and Doug Trivett for the care given to Mrs. Greer during her illness. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 21, 2011, at the Grosses Creek Baptist Church in Chilhowie with the Rev. Joe Lambert and the Rev. George Jessee officiating. Interment will follow in the Grosses Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. Flowers will be appreciated or memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of SWVA, 600 West Ridge Road, Wytheville, VA 24382.
