Lorraine Pribbernow Obituary

Lorraine Jeanette Pribbernow

Lorraine Pribbernow, born Lorraine Jeanette Lund on May 4, 1924 to William and Mabel Lund, in St. Paul, MN, peacefully passed away in Bellevue, WA September 16, 2013, surrounded by her family. She spent her childhood in Gladmar, Saskatchewan, Canada, on the family farm. These were good years and everyone worked hard to make a living. Lorraine rode horseback nine miles to and from school each day. At age eighteen, Lorraine moved to Plentywood, MT. She worked at Gresham's Variety Store as a clerk. She worked fifty hours a week and made $60 a month. Lorraine also met her future husband, Fred "Fritz" Pribbernow at the store, through a friend. He was home on leave from the Merchant Marines. Lorraine felt at home in both the United States and Canada. In 1945 Lorraine came out to Seattle, WA on the bus on vacation. She liked it out here, especially the evergreen trees. She worked at Manning's Bakery as a salesgirl, having found a "help wanted" sign in the window. On August 16, 1946 Lorraine and Fritz were married in Seattle. They lived in an apartment on Capitol Hill. A daughter, Janet Rae was born in 1953, they moved to Bellevue, WA in 1956, and over the next five years they welcomed three sons - Frederick Robert, Ronald Mark and Randall Carl. After 56 years of marriage, Fritz passed away in 2002. Lorraine was a Bellevue resident for fifty-seven years, having lived in Lake Hills and Lancaster neighborhoods. Lorraine's greatest joys were her children and grandchildren (they were very close), and being a homemaker, although she also worked at Safeway Bakery and Bellevue School District Food Services. Lorraine and Fritz were members of Lake Hills Community Church, and later Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, where Lorraine helped with weddings. Lorraine enjoyed the simple things in life: sewing, stitchery, cooking, working crossword puzzles, doing jigsaw puzzles, a cup of tea or coffee, playing solitaire, walks in the neighborhood, her farm in Wahpeton, ND, getting together with family and friends at home or local restaurants(McDonald's, Denny's, Lil' Jon, etc.), and caring for all the family dogs. She especially looked forward to getting her mail each day! She had a good-hearted disposition and a great love for her family and friends. Lorraine was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother and true friend. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, husband Fritz and sister Norma Rotering. She is survived by her four children: Janet Thompson of Bellevue, WA, Fred Pribbernow of Issaquah, WA, Ron (Christina) Pribbernow of Sammamish, WA, and Randy Pribbernow of North Bend, WA and three grandchildren: Lynn Thompson of Issaquah, WA, Kari Thompson of Mercer Island, WA and Chris Pribbernow of Sammamish, WA, and many nieces, nephews, brother and sister-in-laws and cousins (whom she considered to be more like sisters and brothers), and an abundance of dear friends.

Not sure what to say?

Your mother was our dear friend for many years and we were so sorry we couldn't make it to the funeral. Our thoughts were and still are with all of you, family and friends.
We have so many good memories, of her love and support in our times of sadness, of Constant Comment tea and chats in her kitchen, of children's birthday parties, New Years Eve celebrations, and much more.
She was handy with a screwdriver: several times, she helped me (Marie) break into our house in Lake Hills when I'd locked myself out.
Janet and Ron and Fred and Randy, you probably don't remember the time we killed your parakeet. Your mom had asked us to look after it while you were on vacation. It escaped from its cage when I fed it, flew around in a panic, and died of fright. We were almost afraid to tell her. But she got such a look of relief, and said, "Good! I never did like that bird."
We will miss Lorraine so much, but take comfort in knowing that she's with Fritz.

The service was a very touching tribute to Aunt Lorraine. We were so blessed to be able to attend the service and join her family and friends in celebrating her life. She was a special person and will forever be missed. Love, Renai

Unfortunately, I couldn't make it to the service on Wednesday - but, my thoughts were with all of you. So sad to hear of your mother's passing. I know what a hole that leaves. It was so nice that our 'Lake Hills' parents had such nice friendships that continued even after they moved from the neighborhood.

Vicki Pardee
I am sorry we couldn't stay to visit and enjoy some time and stories with you all.
Once my parents "meter" ran out, we had to go!
I hope you can share and enjoy a visit to MOHAI,the Museum of History and Industry. The original "R" from the Rainier Brewery is there now as is an exhibit about "Lake Hills" Now if that doesn't make you feel old...! Our neighborhood is in a Museum!
I really! enjoyed the picture boards today. We started our lives together in Lake Hills, guided by all the Mom's in the neighborhood.
I always admired Loraine so much, when she talked about riding her horse back and forth to school. I think I am still trying to fulfill that image.
I look forward to staying in touch. Please let me know if there is anything I can do.
