Lou Jean Fitt Obituary

Lou Jean Newbold Fitt
"Home at last"
3/17/1930 ~ 11/18/2010

Lou Jean Newbold Fitt passed quietly into the arms of her heavenly father on Nov. 18, 2010 at her home, at the age of 80. She was the eldest daughter of Henry Arnold Newbold, and Hazel Ann Christensen Newbold. Jean was blessed with a brilliant mind and a loving heart. She graduated from Granite High School, and was a faithful organist and leader in the Granite Park and Miller Wards all her adult life. Her marriage was a love story that began when she first met her future husband, Robert Fitt, in the 4th grade. They sang their first duet together in the 7th grade on KSL radio; and as their friendship grew into romance, they were married on Nov. 4th, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple at age 19. Death will not separate them for long, 62 years of marriage seems a lot, but it is nothing compared to the years that they will enjoy throughout eternity. If a single word could describe this noble woman, that word would be devotion. A devotion rooted in her love of God, of truth, and love of home and family where she was a contented homemaker. She succeeded in making her home a sanctuary of peace and love. Jean is survived by her husband, and four children; Patricia (Dan) Kirkham; Michelle (Noel) Zaugg; Steven (Karen) Fitt; and Jonathan (Jen) Fitt; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren Funeral services will be held at noon in the Salt Lake Granite Park Stake Center at 601 East Mansfield Avenue (3115 So.) on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010. Friends may call Monday evening, Nov. 22, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, (3401 South Highland Drive), and at 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the services. The family wishes to offer thanks to all those who made her life easier during this trying time.

To Lou Jean's husband Robert and their children and grandchildren: Allen and I send our condolences to you at the passing of your dear wife and mother. My friendship with Lou Jean began when my family moved to 2nd East in South Salt Lake. Lou Jean made me feel so welcome that first frighting day in the 3rd grade at Blaine Elementary School. Through the school years 3rd through 7th we were good friends, sat beside each other, rode bicycles from my house to her home on Gregson Ave. and played together without ever a discord. I was always impressed with her looking forward to her St. Patricks day birthday and the long green ribbons she wore on her hair every time. She was so kind to her sister Kaylene (I think I remembered the right name) and showed respect to her parents always. She was a good friend and model for me to follow. Before the 8th grade year began my folks moved to Murray, and as a result we grew away from each other through the years. But I never forgot the good times we had while growing up as friends in grade school. I recall both she and Robert were some of the best and smartest ones in our classes. Now to read of her homemaking and music skills and the fine family she and Robert have raised only enriches my long admiration to a wonderful person I knew years ago, and have kept her in my childhood memories all these years. What an exciting reunion awaits us in Heaven. Sweet blessings to be with you, Robert, and to your family. Sincerely, Norma Jo (Stocking) and Allen Vance.
