Stella: Just wanted you to know that you are in my prayers. I'll always have fond memories of Red playing the piano at Fairview. We all have good memories of our faith raising there that will carry us through until we meet our loved ones again. Knowing that Red and Buck (daddy) are singing and playing the piano together now throughtout eternity is a comfort with Red's passing.

My best memories of Red are listening to Streisand albums at his house - over and over again - until every word was memorized.
So in the words of Barbara, "the joy of his being (will always) outshine every star."

To the entire Yates family,

I am sorry to hear of Red's passing. I haven't seen him in many years but I have many childhood memories of personal interactions that I will never forget. He was truly "one of a kind" and I am happy to say that he was a part of my life those many years ago. I am in Atlanta now so I'm sorry I can't be there but please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayer.

Stella, Scarlett and Ryan,

Rosemarie and I are praying for each of you in the loss of Red. He was truly a blessing to us as we served together at Trinity Baptist Church. His ability to play the piano was an inspiration to us as we worshipped together each Sunday. We will miss him greatly. Please let us know if there is anything that we can do for you.

We love you,
Ronnie and Rosemarie Holmes

The Yates Family,

My deepest sympathy to your family during this time. Red was an inspirational director to me during the 80's when he cast me in some of the "All County Musicals" in Gadsden. I didn't even truly know what a musical was until I had the privilege to work with him. He was pivotal in inspiring confidence and a love for the theatre in these students who had a rare opportunity to work with fellow actors/singers from other schools in the area. Had it not been for Red's dedication, love of directing, and these "All County Musicals", I would have never had the courage to chase my dreams. And I may have never met the man to whom I am married! He was truly an inspiration to me and gave me confidence by being a dedicated, compassionate and passionate director. He truly loved all of his students and his dedication and love for the arts influenced and touched many, back then and still today. He will be greatly missed. But he will also be GREATLY remembered.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you. I had known Red for many, many years and he was a classmate of mine at Gadsden High. Red was a very funny, talented guy and he will be missed very much.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

I'm very sorry to hear about Mr. Yates. I know I am not the only one who feels this way, but I would not have become the person I am if it weren't for him. He showed me the importance of having a passion for everything you do. It's terrible that he had to leave us so early.

To the Yates Family:
May God be with you during this difficult time. Mr Yates will forever be loved and held in our hearts. He was such an awesome man. He instilled much knowledge in so many. If not for him I wouldn't have had the courage to follow my dreams and aspirations. Being the dramatic person that he was, he inspired so many. I know Jeremy West and Jason Bozeman in particular, held him very close to their hearts. If I know Mr Yates he's laughing @ us all for not celebrating his life. In our graduation ceremony he spoke of what we all might become one day. Mr Yates the class of 1997 will always and forever remember you for a famous quote, "You egg-sucking Dog". We love you, Mr Yates. We'll see you again, one day! I promise!
