Lou and Marie were the kindest, dearest friends, mentors, almost substitute parents for Marta and me. Our visits to "Rosebud" were joyous, filled with good Polish food, laughter, stories, and love. We shared photos and funnies and our love of all things visual in emails. It was an honor to serve for many years as Lou´s teaching assistant for Lit & Arts B-17 and B-18 (the most incredibly audacious survey course of visual art). Lou Bakanowsky was the reason I went into design. I took Lit and Arts B-18 as a freshman in college, and that was it! After graduate school I was lucky enough to TA for Lou and I realized he was even more amazing than I had realized, rethinking lessons that were perfect in my estimation, and switching things up just so, to make them more fresh and intriguing for the current students.
