Louis Barkovich

Louie was two years ahead of me in school. He was more of a contempory of my older brother Dave. But our backgrounds were similar as we grew up on farms in the Almena area, picked asparagus, attended country school and he and my brother built their own ball fields shot baskets in our barn and played on all of the teams at Paw Paw High School, A solid citizen and one who stayed loyal and connected to his community. I was a teammate of Louie's in football, basketball, and baseball in the 1950's. Louie was the best defensive player in all three sports that a teammate could ask for. In football, he blocked for runners going for a TD, in basketball , he rebounded for shooters, and his plays at first base saved many victories for the Redskins. Much has been said about his community involvement. Paw Paw was fortunate to have Louie as a resident and I as a life long friend. Tom Horn
