Ruggiero Funeral Home, LLC - Pen Argyl Obituary

Louis G. Bray, 82, of Bangor, PA, passed away on March 30, 2023 at Slate Belt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his family. Although he battled Alzheimer’s for nearly eight years, he ultimately succumbed to a short bout of Covid.

Louis was born on March 23, 1941 in Bethlehem, PA and was the son of the late Gerald and Hilda Bray of Pen Argyl, PA. Louie was married to his loving wife, Patricia Bray (DeMaria), for 59 years.

Lou was a 1960 graduate of Pen Argyl High School. Over his working career, he was employed by R&R Toys and various textile mills with the last being Perfect Shirt. He ended his working career at Gracedale Nursing Home. He was also the owner of Bray’s Ethnic Foods where he was a vendor at many local events including Blue Valley Farm Show, Musikfest, and Celtic Fest. He took great pride in the meticulous work that went into making Cornish pasties from scratch.

Louie was a devout Christian and a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pen Argyl, PA. He was the sexton at Evangelical United Brethren Church and then at GUMC for 45 years. He served on many committees in the church including Administrative Board, Pastor-Parish Relations, and the Building Committee.

In addition to his work in his church, Lou was passionate about community service. He was a member of the Exchange Club, Slate Belt Heritage Center, and the Cornish Heritage Society. Louie will be remembered for his strong work ethic, corny sense of humor, and jokester personality.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons David Bray (wife, Lori); Steven Bray (wife, Carrie); a daughter LouAnn Fehr (husband, Robert); grandchildren Kegan, Lucas, Wyatt, and Logan Bray and Madelyn and Braylynn Fehr; a sister, Sarah Polo (wife of the late Angelo Polo) and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at 11 AM, at Grace United Methodist Church, 404 E. Mountain Avenue, Pen Argyl.  There will be viewing hours, Monday, beginning at 6 PM until 8 PM at the Ruggiero Funeral Home, LLC, 126 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Pen Argyl, and Tuesday beginning at 10 AM until 10:45 AM Tuesday at the church.  Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Pen Argyl.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Grace United Methodist Church, 404 E. Mountain Ave., Pen Argyl, PA 18072 or the Alzheimer’s Association at Team Memory Knights.
