LOUIS WILLORD CARTER, JR.

Louis Willord Carter Jr. was born on June 12, 1947, to Louis Willord Carter, Sr., and Hazel V. Mangum Carter. As a native of Jacksonville, Florida, Louis attended New Stanton High School Class of 1965. Furthering his education, he attended St. Augustine College in Raleigh, North Carolina. After spending two years there, Louis joined the United States Air Force. Upon completing his tour, Louis moved to Atlanta, Georgia for a period of time and decided to return back home to Jacksonville, Florida.

Louis began his career with the United States Postal Service where he gave thirty-two years of dedicated service and received the “MILLION MILE CLUB AWARD” for attaining one million miles or thirty years of safe driving without a preventable incident. Known for his engaging personality, many adults and children who interacted with Louis loved him dearly.

At the age of 27 years old, Louis proposed to Rosalind King (23 years old), and they were united in holy matrimony on January 4, 1975, at Simpson United Methodist Church, where Reverend S.S Robinson, officiated. From this union, three sons were born Clayton, Elliot, and Nicholas.

Louis was a sports fan. His favorite team for basketball was University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill - Tar Heels and for football Florida State University – Seminoles. Louis was very instrumental and extremely supportive in his sons’ sports career from the
beginning at Kooker Park (Henry Brown, Director), as well as Episcopal High School, William M Raines High School, University of West Florida, South Carolina State University, and Grambling State University. Louis was Clayton, Elliot, and Nicholas’ number one fan as well as their mom Rosalind.

He was most proud of being a grandfather of two grandsons to continue his legacy. Cooking shows were Louis’ favorite pastime. He loved to bar-b-que and taught his sons (only if they cleaned the grill). His main dishes were his seafood gumbo and ribs.

Louis loved his family members and loved attending family reunions on both sides of the family. He especially loved his class reunion and looked forward to spending time with his high school classmates from the New Stanton High School Class of 1965. Every year, Louis looked forward to attending homecoming at Bethune Cookman College aka Bethune Cookman University, where he made long lasting friendships.

Memorable moments outside his marriage, the birth of his children, was seeing his son Clayton and his son Elliot marry and have children of their own, and his youngest son, Nicholas, helping as his caregiver during his latter days. At the most, Louis did not like people to fuss over him, however, he very much enjoyed his surprise 70 th birthday celebration with friends and family members.

On January 4, 2025, Louis and Rosalind celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary. Together they shared a beautiful champagne toast, Whitman sampler chocolates, and exchanged loving heartfelt cards.

 As we salute the life, enduring the legacy and the essence of the man with cool demeanor, who passed away on January 15, 2025, we say farewell to our beloved Louis. Louis leaves behind to continue his carbon footprint, his wife Rosalind of 50 years; sons, Clayton(daughter-in-law April), Elliot(daughter-in-law Kimberly), and Nicholas; grandsons, Christian and Clayton L. Carter, Jr. “Clay J”; his favorite fur baby, Finona; sisters-in-law, Jacqui Clarke (Peter) and Felicia Guy; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a plethora of friends. We will always cherish the life and legacy of Louis Willord Carter, Jr.
