I suddenly thought of Lou tonight while kayaking here in Mussel Cove, Falmouth ME, as I was worried he may have passed since I had talked with him and LIllian probably in 2012.. he sounded the same. I graduated in '83 in meteorology, in part thanks to his generous ongoing help, along with Bill Fuller and Gus Wollan,
Restoring this guest book costs nothing compared to what I feel I owed Lou for welcoming me to his office hours endlessly for help I always desparately needed(I never took one...

I am so sorry for the passing of Louis. Even though I have only known him for such a short time. I feel like he will be greatly missed. It was an honor meeting him and you Lillian.

Lou spent a lot of time and energy doing voluntary good deeds. The obituary mentions his work for the West Lafayette Public Library. Another example is the Indiana School Mathematics Journal, which Lou and his friend Professor Gus Wollan of the Purdue Mathematics Department wrote and sent out to Indiana High Schools for a number of years in the 60's and 70's. Each issue had a few pages of interesting mathematics, followed by problems that high school students could send in solutions for....

I was so sorry to hear of Lou's passing. I feel blessed to have known him and worked with him. I loved his stories and listening to him play his banjo. He was a very special man and will be greatly missed. Teena Erwin
