Dr. Louis G. D'Alecy Ph.D.

My wife Kate and I would like to extend our sincerest condolences. I had the honor of working with Dr. D'Alecy initially as a medical student in 1984 and then completed my PhD under his guidance in 1993 as I finished me surgical residency/fellowship training. He was the consummate scientist and had keen mind to readily dissect the crucial/relevant issues. He had the ability to literally fix everything and once joked that he could fix everything "from a broken heart to the crack of dawn". ...

My wife and I are deeply saddened that Lou has passed away. I met him in 1977, shortly after I joined the medical school faculty as a newly minted assistant professor. It´s fair to say I couldn´t have flourished, perhaps survived, without Lou´s insights and mentorship. He taught me how to deal with the foibles and idiosyncrasies of a huge bureaucracy and of individual people. And he was, among all things to me, a best friend. I'm so sorry for your loss. I was fortunate enough to have been a student when Dr. A'lecy began his tenure in the physiology department at the University of Michigan. He stood out to me, so much so, that even though it's been 50 years since I took that class, my memory of him is still with me.
