Not sure what to say?

I was heart broken to hear this news about Dr. Elsas. I was searching for contact information to let him know that one of his patients turned 20 and is living a happy, healthy life. We have always credited Dr. Elsas with saving Alex's life. He diagnosed hAlex's MCAD this time 20 years ago when 4 day old Alex showed up at Egleston ER. Dr. Elsas was wonderful with our family, caring, genuine, accessible. He made a frightening diagnosis feel manageable. I believe that you can add a lot of...

Nancy, My name is Maurice O'Connell and I was a classmate of Skip's at UVa, When he was in the hospital with a serious problem my mother was his private duty nurse and we became friends. I was struggling with poverty and family pressures and had to drive a cab to stay afloat. He was generous with his time and talk and shared his much better notes with me and helped me to improve my study habits. When I was feeling overwhelmed he would come by with his sports car and we would take long fast...

Dear Nancy and Weesie, I am Isabella from Italy. I only now learned of Skips's passing and I felt so sad. I still remember the hospitality and kindness of you all when I was your guest in Atlanta, many years ago, and the good time spent together in Parma when I tutored Weesie in Italian language. All my prayers will be for him and I will always remember you, despite the distance.

So sad to see this. At a difficult time in my life I ended up at Emory's medical genetics clinic because of a misdiagnosis that was ruining my life before I could start my career. Dr. Elsas rejected the diagnosis after a thorough history and exam, told me what to look for in the future to further disprove it (he was correct of course!), and wrote the letter that would put life back on track. I did not have to fear working, having babies (3 of them), or being able to get insurance. Truly a...

Dear Nancy,
I only learned of Skop's death this morning from Jerry Schneider. I am so sorry to have been so out of touch. In life we sometimes get separated by time and distance. Despite this I have always counted you and Skip as special people and friends. We had such good times together at Yale and then you hosted me when I came to Atlanta for ACS study sections including hosting my daughter Deirdre.Skip and I always got together at meetings and also talked Science on the phone. I also...

Dear Nancy and family,
My family is one of the families that our life was deeply touched by Dr. Skip Elsas. Dr. Elsas will be missed greatly by us for his kindness, his warmth and his wisdom.

Nancy,
I just heard of Skip's passing. We always exchanged cards every year around this time. He had written last year he was going back to Atlanta. I saw his living history segment filmed last spring at Emory. He had a fine mind and a generous heart. He touched many lives, from his pediatric patients and their families to his graduate students, post-docs and medical fellows. He was energetic, curious and highly intelligent. Skip left both Georgia and Florida better places than...

Dear Nancy and Family,
It is with deep sorrow that we learned of Skip's passing. He was truly a remarkable man. We remember with great fondness his enthusiasm for Emory which was instrumental in securing Doug's recruitment to Emory so many years ago. Likewise we remember with gratitude the kindness which you both showed to us and our young family as you welcomed us to our new home in Atlanta. Skip was truly an wonderful individual who touched so many hearts and lives, both personally and...

Dear Nancy and family,
I knew Skip from the galactosemia conferences and research studies. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. His life was truly a life well-lived. He will be missed.
