Not sure what to say?

September 1966 Mel Graner introduced me to the clarinet at Queen Palmer Elementary and I fell in love with music and band from that moment on! Mr. Graner´s mentorship and music instruction continued for the next five years during which time I graduated to the bass clarinet while at East Junior! He was a great friend and his mentorship left a lasting impression in not only me, but hundreds of students who had the privilege of being under his leadership!

Mel, you were a friend and inspiration to me and countless others in the band director community. You will be missed, RIP my friend.

My prayers are with Brother Mel's family and friends. We at Centurion Lodge #195 referred to Mel as one of the "three amigos" as he and two other brothers who were Shrine musicians always came to our lode together. We will miss him.

We are deeply saddened to learn of Mel's death and we give thanks for having known him well as choir director, friend and colleague. May his family be comforted by the many wonderful memories he leaves for all of us.
