Brooklawn Funeral Home - Rocky Hill Obituary

Louis (“Lou”) Nicholas Marinelli Jr, beloved husband to Susan Marinelli of 28 years, passed away at Middlesex Hospital on March 15th surrounded by his family. Born in Hartford, CT, on June 4th, 1955. He was the son of the late Louis Nicholas Marinelli Sr. and the late Judy Follacchio. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Susan, and beloved children Amanda and Louis Marinelli III. He also leaves behind his brother Gary Marinelli and wife Ellen Marinelli; his sister Laura Morizio and husband Donald Morizio. He leaves behind his Uncle Nick Follacchio and wife Patty Follacchio; along with Uncle George Marinelli and wife Sharon Marinelli. He is survived by his nieces and nephews Audrey Marinelli, Lauren Marinelli, David Morizio, Danny Morizio, and Jennifer Morizio, and many cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father Louis Nicholas Marinelli Sr and mother Judy Follacchio, his Uncle Patsy and wife Jean, Uncle Johnny, and cousin Joey Follacchio. Lou was born in Hartford, but spent the majority of his childhood in Rocky Hill, graduating from Rocky Hill High School in 1973. He earned his Associates degree in wood technology from SUNY Morrisville in upstate New York. He then attended UMass, graduating with a bachelor's degree in forestry in 1977. At the age of 25, Lou put up his pride and joy, his 1968 Corvette, for collateral and opened up Marinelli’s Italian restaurant in Westfield, Mass. After 5 years of working 80 hours a week, he switched gears and pursued a teaching career in culinary arts at Prince Tech in Hartford. Later on he transferred to Vinal Tech in Middletown and remained there until his retirement. In 1995, he married his beloved Susan and moved out to Hebron several years later where he remained for the rest of his life. In 2003, Lou and Sue were blessed with twins, Luigi and Amanda. He loved being a father and wanted the best for them. He watched them grow, play a variety of sports, and graduate high school.

During his life, he enjoyed interacting with family, socializing with friends, making wine, golfing, traveling, and riding around on his John Deere mower keeping his property in tip top shape. Lou retired in 2019 after 34 years of teaching. He went to Italy one last time in 2023 along with Yellowstone. Unfortunately, his dreams were cut short by his illness. He was taken from us much too soon and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024 at 11a.m. in St Josephine Bakhita Church, St James Campus 767 Elm St, Rocky Hill, CT. Family and friends are invited to the Brooklawn Funeral Home, 511 Brook St, Rocky Hill, CT, on Friday from 9:30-10:30a.m. Interment will be at a later date.
