MATTUCCI Major Louis G. , Retired U.S. Army, "George" of Springfield on June 11, 2012 Beloved husband of June and son of the late Albert and Jennie Mattucci. He was predeceased by his brother, Joe, his sisters-in-law, Irene Frost and Pauline Murray and his brother-in-law, Gene Grassi. Born and raised in Phila. He was a graduate of South Philadelphia High and Strayers Business School and the LaSalle Extension University. Louis was a veteran of WWII and was in the 4th Infantry, 42 Field artillery. He landed on Utah Beach on D –Day and was in the Battle of the Bulge, where he received a Bronze medal. After being discharged from that conflict, he reenlisted in the PA National Guard and went onto Officer Training School at Ft. Sill, OK and was commissioned 1st Lt. He joined the 28 Infantry Div. and was Battery Commander at Broad and Diamond Sts. in Phila. He later was assigned to Gen. Fluk's Hdqtrs. in Harrisburg, PA where he was commissioned a Major. He retired after 22 years of service. He was a member of the Retired Officers Assoc., 4th Inf. Div, Battle of the Bulge and Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree in Cardinal Dougherty Assembly FIU5705 where he was Commander and Service Officer. He was a charter member of Post 928 Folsom, PA, also Veteran's of Foreign Wars, Post 920 and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church. He married his childhood sweetheart and resided in Upper Darby before moving to Springfield PA. He lived in Springfield for over 50 years and worked at the Polls on Election day. He worked for the Veteran's Administration and was an advocate representative for the Federal Government in appeal cases. He was also an avid Phillies and Eagles fan and played football for Pop Warner in Phila. He is also survived by his nephew, William Frost, Jr., niece, Denise Fitcher, cousins; Rita and Bill D'Antonio of Malvern, Louis and Joan Sacchetti of Ellicoh City, MD, Nora Mote, Suitland, MD and Michael Cianto, of Upper Darby, PA. Relatives and friends are invited to Viewing on Thurs. 9:30 to 10:45 AM followed by his Funeral Mass, 11 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 136 Saxer Ave, Springfield Ave., 19064.
