Louis Slemon, 97, of North Providence, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, Tuesday, January 17, 2017. He was the husband of the late Frances (Petrucci) Slemon. Born in Central Falls, he was the son of the late Shafee and Annie (Hanna) Slemon. Louis was an army veteran of World War II, serving in the Normandy invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. He lived most of his life in North Providence. He was a machine operator for Hindley Manufacturing for fifty years, retiring in 1985. Louis was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary’s Antiochian Orthodox Church and always enjoyed volunteering for the many church functions over the years. He was a longtime member of AMVETS. He is survived by his daughter, Francine Robat and her husband, Charles; his grandchildren, Julie Robat, Christine Gilmore and her husband Brian, and Marie Robat. He also leaves his great granddaughter, Emma Grace Gilmore. He was the father of the late Louis Slemon Jr. and the brother of the late Lula Simmons, Ann Sabby, Charles and Fred Slemon. The funeral will be held Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 9AM from the Costigan-O’Neill Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket, followed by a Funeral Service at 10AM in Saint Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, 249 High Street, Pawtucket. Burial with military honors will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours Friday from 4-7PM in the Costigan-O’Neill Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Mary’s Church, in memory of Louis, would be appreciated.
