Not sure what to say?

Thank you Lou,for the wonderful person that you were. Always energetic, slightly critical but very appreciative, and above all a very good fighter. You never gave up on anything that you believed was right. You were ready to encourage and extend a hand whenever the need arose.Thank you Lou, for being more than someone to just work with. You were indeed a very good friend who impacted my life a lot.It seemed to be sudden and sad but Lou I'm grateful for knowing you and associating with you.I...

After I retired in 1994, my late wife, Paulina, and I decided to become active local Democrats in Mountainside. We wanted to expose our entrenched, all-Republican borough council to public view and participation and to responsibility, accountability, consideration for real community needs and welfare, and just plain common sense.
We found that Lou Thomas, a stout leader, and a small group of colleagues had the same desires and goals. Over the years, it was Lou’s determination, intensity,...

When Cathy and I moved into Scoth Plains in the late 50's or early 60's, Helen and Cathy's cousin Lou lived up the street. Lou and I played on the Williams Street softball team. We played Victor Street on week-ends. I would like to say for the purposes of this memoir, that Lou was a good softball player. He played right field and any kid will tell you what that indicates. But he had spirit and most importantly, perserverance. He also laid out the money and bought the beer, which we...

Helen, Joyce and Lynn,

I sure will miss my wonderful conversations with Lou over the phone. For that moment in time, I felt like I had a dad again. He was a great listener and always made me laugh. Lou was a rare breed, strong, courageous, intelligent, and very loving. I know he will be watching over all of you making sure you will always feel his presence, strength and love.

Dear Thomas family,
My association with Lou began when he approached me as the district attorney responsible for the prosecution of the individual responsible for Kim's murder. Through the years we have had many many communications. Some were frustrating for both of us. We developed first a respect for each other then a friendship. We had conversations that included many topics: among them family, especially his grandson, life, death and health. His love of family was intense and...

Lou, thank you so much for being such a wonderful friend and neighbor to me all these years! We watched out for each other and helped out when needed, and in this day and age that is a rare find. Thanks so much Lou from the bottom of my heart!! I will miss you!

Aunt Helen & family, It’s with the heaviest of hearts that I write you today. Unlce Lou was the best!! A true family man who always made me feel special. He was kind and loving to me and my family. We were not able to attend the service (due to the storm) but we had our own memorial. Sharing our stories of a wonderful Uncle & friend. My mom shared a story of when Uncle Lou called to make sure she was doing okay, when she hit a tough spot in her life. She can’t tell the story without...

Yiayia Helen, Lynn and Joyce,
Pappou Lou. To me and to my boys, Gregory and Alexander, Lou will always be known as Pappou Lou. I had the honor and privilege of living across the street from Lou and Helen for several years in Mountainside. Even though I have since moved, we have always managed to stay in contact and got together whenever possible. Lou had and will always have a permanent place in my heart. I remember when we first met as if it was yesterday. I had just moved into my home...

My Uncle Lou was generous to a fault. Absolutely enjoyed every moment we shared together. Sharing was really more Lou telling a great story - of course, lots of "points" to make ... we've "belted down" a few together, we shared a dance or two together, he freely shared golfing tips, ponies, and his excitement to have found Polish vodka. He was a character :) As a kid and as an adult, I appreciated his encouragement and advise, most recently about my unemployment situation. My last contact...
