My Dad, John Turner, was state editor of the Arizona Times, the paper for which Lou and his wife, Jeanie, worked. They were my parents dearest friends, and also mine. Dee Dee was my parents Godchild. I babysat their children. We shared holidays together and had many memorable times.

It was my privilege to meet Lou when I was a very young firefighter on the Phoenix Fire Department, taking a fire administration class at Phoenix College in maybe 1961. Lou was in the class and I very much enjoyed talking with him, hearing his story, reading his stuff, etc.
