Not sure what to say?

Younkin Family,

We were neighbors in Decatur, IL. I was the boy who feel off his bike in front of your house and you fixed his skined knee. That is how we meet. Lou taught me to play basketball with his green leather ball. I remember the day Linda lost her "Little Lou" ring swiming. Childhood memories are made by people we treasure.

Rick and I will miss Lou very much. He was a wonderful person with much to give. I will always remember his humorous and caring personality. He was a joy to be around.

My condolences to Lou's family. I read of his passing in the Keokuk newspaper. Lou and I were next door neighbors in Keokuk and friends from grade through high school. Lou always had a smile and a joke to share. I remember his passion for jazz especially Bix Biederbeck. His love of sports guided him to his vocation. I have many fond memories of Lou and our boyhood friendship.

Linda & Ms. Younkin: I am so sorry I just learned about his death today 8/4. I would love to have come and visited with you at the memorial service. I will truly miss his funny e-mails. Linda, if there is anything I can do for you, please let me know. Love you all,
Martha Armstrong

Laura,
I am sorry to hear about your dad. He is in a better place now as you once asked me. I missed the listing in the paper; Brenda sent an e-mail which I got too late to come today. My prayers are with you and your family. Take care. See ya soon on the courts.
Love ya, Becky

From Junior High School at Keokuk, Iowa through the University of Iowa we were always the best of friends and Dixie and I will miss him. We played an awful lot of pinachole because we were as poor as churchmice. Lou was a sports encyclopedia; a fine journalist; a pretty good forward and a caring friend. Darlene, Linda and Laura, thanks also for your friendship. We will keep in touch. Jack and Dixie Lawton (Vienna, Virginia)

Dear Laura and family,
I was saddened to hear of Mr. Younkin's passing. He made a lasting impression on a kid who taught herself the saxophone by sharing his old jazz collection whenever she came by after school to visit with her friend Laura. I suspect he touched many lives in small ways that lasted. My heart is with you all. Pam Cradic (nee Kerschner)

Please accept our condolences from the Hosparus In Patient Care Center.

I will miss the sports writer I knew on the Decatur Herald & Review, his family, and even the memory of his little white dog he named "Kitty."
Lou would step out his front door and call, "Here Kitty!" and Kitty the dog would come running. My wife and son never had the chance to meet him, but they loved his e-mail jokes. My consolations to the family. Eldon Libby
