Feerick Funeral Home - Shorewood Obituary

Louise Van Dyke Cardinal, 90, a longtime Milwaukee resident, passed away peacefully here on Wednesday, September 20th. She was predeceased by two husbands and is survived by three children, a daughter-in-law, two wonderful grandchildren along with caregivers and friends.

Louise was innately curious and had many diverse interests. Conversant on a wide variety of topics, it was always engaging to talk with her. She held enlightenment ideals, was a lover of the arts and avidly followed the latest scientific news. Louise had been an amateur archeologist, was adept at research, and was a generous supporter of historic preservation efforts. Throughout her long life Louise was committed to causes supporting our Democratic institutions. Her involvement in social issues, with a focus on civil rights, commenced in the aftermath of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination. She was also a passionate advocate for people with mental illnesses. Louise gave both her time and resources to make the world a better place; she will be deeply missed.

A private remembrance will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to: the National Alliance on Mental Illness Wisconsin, Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church of Atlanta (Rev. M.L. King's parish), Macular Degeneration research at the Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee Eye Institute, The Milwaukee Art Museum, or a charity of your choice.

Not sure what to say?

Louise was an amazing individual couldn't have been kinder or more supportive of me when I was a struggling teenager 50 years ago. Louise, Laurie and Paul will always have a special place in my heart. We shared a lot of laughs and wonderful times over the years. May the sadness of her passing be overshadowed by all the wonderful times we all shared with her.
