Ms. Louise Barner Jones, daughter of the late Henry Lewis and Avelina Barner, was born in Mecklenburg County, Virginia on October 23, 1940. She quietly departed this life and transitioned to the next at 12:02 pm on Monday, February 1, 2021 in Lawrenceville, Virginia at Envoy of Lawrenceville Long Term Care Center.
She was educated in the Mecklenburg County School System at the John Groom Elementary School and East End High School. At a very young age, she left South Hill and journeyed to Jersey City, New Jersey to explore life outside of the family farm and to start a family of her own. Her love of caring for others led her to a career in nursing and she held various unlicensed positions in a hospital there. She eventually moved back to South Hill with her family. She held various home care private duty nursing jobs eventually leading her to Community Memorial Hospital where she became a certified nursing assistant working in various wings of the hospital until finally landing a position as a home health care aid. She retired from Community Memorial after many years of employment.
She loved the Lord. She was a life long member of Saint Luke Baptist Church, South Hill, Virginia where she enjoyed singing in the choir, summer revivals and the various programs. She especially enjoyed studying for Sunday School and eagerly anticipated spirited discussions over the lessons with other members until her health declined and she was no longer able to attend. She enjoyed traveling and was always ready for a road trip.
She is preceded in death by her three sisters: Hattie Mae Baskerville, Alice Mae Gill and Elizabeth Brown; and three brothers Early, Richard and Robert Bracey.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Jeanette Garnes of South Hill; Carolyn Garnes (Claude Jones) of Richmond; Thomas Lambert Jr. of South Hill; and Rosetta Penn and son-in-law, Tommy Penn of Gasburg; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at the Chapel of Oris P. Jones Funeral Establishment, South Hill, VA with Rev.
