We have lost a great man. My condolences to Art's family and friends. He was my friend at SIU-E during my employment as a secretary in Lovejoy Library and later in the Admissions Office. When I resumed my education under the civil serivce plan, Art and Ed Leardi encouraged me to always do my best and to never quit until I had achieved my goal. I grew up down the street. We had moved in 1968 and the Hale's were our few neighbors. I loved going to their house and visiting. I never knew his service. I remember a quiet, stoic man who loved nature and teaching us how to appreciate it.
