Lt. Col. George Cecil Rubenson Jr. Ph.D.

In 2006, I was an Americorps volunteer at the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate. The Rubensons graciously opened their home to me for the first 10 days or so, while I found a place of my own in a new town where I knew not a soul. George was an engaging and generous host who welcomed me into conversation and by his act of generosity helped make my first foray into the world a success. I am very grateful to have known him, however briefly, and saddened to learn of his passing.

I will never forget how cordially you received me in Germany in 1967 on my way home to Denmark from Wesleyan totally unknown, just on the recommendation of Ken. The memories are still vividly here.

During the summer of 1968 in Bowling Green, Ohio's city park, I met a young Air Force Captain who became one of my best, life-long friends. Our conversations were many and varied, but always thoughtful and reflective of Bit's abiding sense of himself as a responsible member of each of the communities to which he contributed. Requium in pacem.

There are too many memories to count, both of experiences at Crystal Lake and of times in Bowling Green, OH where we first met George and Nancy at the City Park when we both had young children. Like Susan, I will always remember Bits' warm smile, readiness to strike up a conversation on any topic you could wish, and his willingness to enter into deeper conversations about life in general. At Crystal, he loved to take us out in the boat of which he was the driver, and others were the water...

George and Nancy and their family have been my next door neighbors at Crystal Lake for the past 38 years. I always look forward to seeing them every summer, especially George, who was always ready to greet me or anyone else passing by. He had a perennial smile on his face and a warm hug. I will miss him greatly.
To Nancy, Todd, Lisa and the rest of your family, I will look forward to seeing you this summer and sharing fond memories of your beloved husband and father. Until then, much...
