Lu was born Nov. 12, 1955, to Vernon and Elsie (Sitzmann) Stabe. She grew up on the Stabe Family farm east of Hinton. She was baptized at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Neptune. She graduated from Hinton Community School in 1974.
Lu married the love of her life, Steve Langel at St. Joseph Neptune on May 27, 1978-nearly 43 years. To this union, the couple welcomed two boys, and two girls: Melissa Kerns, Brian Langel, Brent Langel, and Marcia Masker.
Lu's accomplishments are far too great to list! To name just a few; she still holds the record for Hinton Girls State Track running at state three consecutive years in the Sprint Medley. She was active in the church singing in the choir, participating in adoration every week, and with Catholic Daughters of America. She was also active with TTT engaging in multiple activities with that group and adding to her long list of friends. She worked for KLEM radio station, Floyd Valley Hospital, and retired from Medical Associates after 23 years. She enjoyed traveling, crafting, gardening, cooking, fishing with Steve, and trips and activities with her many friends, and most of all her family.
Despite all of Lu's joys in life and accomplishments, she would always say her greatest joy and achievement was her family. She loved spending time with her kids and ten grandkids: Kane, Payton, Delainey, Rayen, Lenex, Tate, Levi, Lily, Tucker, and Leo. Lu deeply touched many lives and all that knew her loved her. Many were privileged to be on the receiving end of her kindness, generosity, talents, as she always made time to lend a helping hand to anyone in need with enthusiasm and a smile!
Lu is survived by her husband Steve; their four kids, Missy (Jake) Kerns, Brian (Krista) Langel, Brent (Ashley) Langel, and Marcia (Brian) Masker; 10 grandkids; her father, Vernon Stabe; five siblings, Bob (Sheila) Stabe, Jeanne (Henrik) Petersen, Randy (Shelley) Stabe, Teresa (Scott) Petty, and Dennis (Karlene) Stabe; mother-in-law, Dorothy Langel; brothers- and sisters-in law Chris and Eric Larsen, Janice and Bill Mischler, Dan and Jenny Langel, and Jeff and Charlotte Langel; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was preceded in death was her mother, Elsie (Sitzmann) Stabe; brother Donald Stabe; grandparents Karl and Amanda Stabe, and Lester and Rita Sitzmann; and father-in-law, Ray Langel.
Pallbearers will be Marcus Stabe, Jeff Lackore, Bryce Stabe, Dustin Petty, Caden Stabe, Nick Larsen, Jason Smith, Alex Langel, and Tod Peutz. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tyler Petty, James Stabe, Chase Stabe, Dustin Sievers, Nate Miller, Ben Stabe, and Cole Langel.
Lu would like to thank Steve for his unconditional love for nearly 43 years and for the unselfish, loving care he provided during her illness. She would also like to thank her kids and their spouses for their loving care and support and for blessing her and Steve with ten incredible grandkids. She loves all of you dearly and will be watching over you always.
Thank you also to all of the WARRIORS. A special request from Lu!! Please wear your WARRIOR shirts to the visitation!! Lu was very appreciative of ALL of her Warriors!!
Lu appreciated all of the help, visits, cards, gifts, meals, and most of all your prayers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can made in Lu's name to Gehlen Catholic School or to the A.L.S. Association at ALS.org. Let's find a cure for this horrible disease.
Lu will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her. Heaven gained a special angel indeed!
My prayers for Lu and her family. May The Lord give you comfort. Jo Hogan (Kim Kouri Treinen´s mother)
