I have fond memories of Lu and the entire Beck family who we always visited when in Portland. Later Lu and mom (Alice Wanke stephens) remained best friends in Portland. Lu even took a watercolor class I taught at PNCA. maybe mom and Lu are hiking together now. much love and deepest sympathy, lynn

Wish I had known her. She was evidently quite a wonderful woman!

My family lived down the road from the Becks and through my friendship with Katie i spent alot of hours in their home (first ever sloppy joe, dancing to beegees records and on and on) Lu treated all the kids who came around with respect and interest and it was a warm and welcoming place to hang out ( endlessly) . I remember especially one Christmas with a famous Portland "silver thaw" when I slipped and slid with my cousins up to the Becks house in the silent night and spent a beautiful...

Next door neighbor for many years and baby sitter of all of the Beck children. Many many memories of the family and of Lou and send much love from the Blue Mountains of Oregon.

Jon and Chris - Thank you so much for sharing for sharing your mother's story. What a wonderful legacy of caring, for both family and community. I hadn't realized that we had her to thank for Tryon Creek Nature Preserve. These goodbyes are never easy; I'll be thinking of you and your family.

LuBeck was a terrific person that I met volunteering tech support at The Springs when she was a resident. Always gracious and knowledgeable, she told me the story of saving Tryon Creek Park... remarkable foresight, ahead of the times. The photo I´ll share is when my wife & I invited several ladies from The Springs over for a picnic dinner... and a `Bubble Gun´ war erupted between them on our deck.
