Not sure what to say?

This is so surreal, for lack of a better term. I often, over the years have thought about Mrs.Zaleski! Tonight I decided to look her up, just to see if I could find a picture because I wanted to be sure I remembered what she looked like! I sadly found her obituary along with her picture! "Wow", it was really her, just as beautiful as I remember. She was my teacher in the early 80´s. My family moved to Va from Delaware and it was quite a shock as a child. This lady made life so much better for...

When I came across the email; I immediately stopped what I was doing. I wasn't a friend or family member of Ms. Zaleski. Upon learning of her passing a year ago; I wrote a memory and a year later I still remember her. I was a juvenile probation officer when I met her. She advocated for children who others would not have. She collaborated with the probation officers, social workers, counselors and teachers to ensure that each child was treated fairly and given a chance to succeed. If we had...

Mrs. Zaleski taught both my sister and I and we both share the same thought that she was our favorite teacher. From the first day in her class at Azalea Gardens (1991), I truly felt that my teacher cared about me and my education. It sounds cliche', but she made learning easy. I will always remember how she outlined writing with red (detail) and blue (elaboration) on the overhead projector. I was just thinking about her and came across this. Although I am incredibly sad to find this out,...

My thoughts and prayers are with Lucy's family. She always spoke fondly of her children when II worked with her at Azalea. Lucy touched the lives of so many children and her co-workers that her legacy and love for education will live on through them. It is with great sadness that she has passed away.

Mrs. Zaleski was my 6th grade teacher at Little Creek Elementary some 50 years ago. Even today, I remember her as being a very special person and teacher. I have fond memories of being in her classroom. Rest In Peace.

She was the ABSOLUTE best at Azalea Middle School. I'd never forgotten her. Rest in peace, you deserve it.

Sending my love and condolences to the family, I was one of her students back in 1992 and she was a wonderful person and teacher. Never treated anyone different and always cared. She will truly be missed and never forgotten.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together. I remember all of you growing up right across the street. Your mom would cut the grass with a baby on her hip. She was a go-getter that is for sure. May God continue to help you heal in the days to come.

I never personally met Mrs. Zaleski, but I know of her professionally. I taught for NPS at Norview HS for 20+ yrs, and I have always heard about the good work she was doing. I always aspired to be as tireless and inspiring as she was. My condolences to her family. What a legacy she leaves in Norfolk!
