Lucio T. Garza, age 94, of Hershey, NE passed away on April 16, 2025 at his home. He was born on December 13, 1930 in Abaline, TX to Isaac and Isabell (Tobar) Garza. His family came to Nebraska when he was eleven years old, and from a young age he was working the beet fields with his father. At the age of 17 in 1953 on March 3, he hired onto Maintenance of Way where he diligently worked for 40 years. When he was laid off, he worked for a hay mill in Cozad, and then NPPD for a while. He retired in 1993 and continued to work at Butch’s and McCray Farms.
Lucio was a member of Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending his free time working on cars, fishing, and always tending his large garden.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children Rosalie Munoz , Patty Garza of Hershey, NE, Sandy Garza of San Antonio, TX; sister Lue Wood of Rochester, MN; grandchildren Christine Purdy, Stephanie Wilson, Samatha Willy, Stacy Munoz, Seth Munoz, S.J. Munoz, Sydney Thompson, Rylee (Rachel) Garza, Amber (Josh Bodeman) Garza; great-grandchildren Maureen Garza-Salinas, Michael Salinas, Logan Salinas, Austin Wilson, Sadah Willy, Savannah Purdy, Sean Purdy; great-grandchildren Noah Sullivan, Parker Sullivan, Josephine Garza and Delilah Garza; sisters-in-law Eva Rico and Mary Rico both of Hershey, NE; and daughter-in-law Julie Garza of North Platte, NE.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Connie of 64 years; son Gary; sisters Christine Hernandez, Mary McRae and Modesta Hernadez; brothers Domingo and Bernard Garza; and granddaughter Jodie Garza.
Mass of then Christian Burial will be at Saint Patrick Catholic Church at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025 with Father Jonathan Sorensen as celebrant. Christian wake service will be on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chaple. Book Signing will be prior at Carpenter Memorial Chapel from Noon to 5:00 p.m. Carpenter Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
