Pine Hill- Lucy Benjamin, 97, of Academy Street, died Thursday evening, with her family in attendance, at the Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville. She was a lifetime Catskill Mountain's resident, having made her home in Pine Hill since the 1950's. She had worked with the Damman's at the Pine Hill Arms on Main St. Pine Hill for many years. She had been a Green Thumb Ladies Club member, and was the consummate homemaker who had the talent and skills to cook, can vegetables, and bake pies beginning at age 9. Her focus was her family. She was born June 23, 1912 in Jewett, daughter of the late Edgar and Christina Rivenburgh Higgins. Surviving are her daughter Lucille Myers of Pine Hill, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by her husband Melvin in 1985, and siblings: Elsie Albert, Arthur, Richard, and Leonard Higgins. A Service to Celebrate the Life of Lucy Benjamin will be held on Wednesday February 16th at 10am with Rev. Ralph Darmstadt as celebrant. Burial will be in the family plot at the Shandaken Rural Cemetery. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 7-9 pm at the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home 87 Main St. Phoenicia.
