A time to be born: Lucy Mae Brown was born to the late Zephrene and Clem Brown, Sr. on November 17, 1930 in Lowndes County, Valdosta, Georgia. A time to grow: Lucy graduated from West Side High School in Newark, NJ in 1949. Lucy later continued her education at NJIT in Newark, NJ where she received her undergraduate degree in Business in 1977 and in 1979 she received her master's degree. Lucy was employed with Western Electric in Kearny, New Jersey as a Supervisor and later became a Manager at Lucent Technologies in Reading, Pennsylvania. Lucy retired in 1989 with 29 years of service. A time to commit and serve: Lucy became a member of Saint John Baptist Church in Newark, N.J. in 1949. Lucy was committed to doing God*s work and served on numerous ministries: Church Clerk, Sunday School Superintendent, Co-Director of Vacation Bible School. She was very active with the youth in the church and was instrumental in forming a Saturday tutoring and mentoring program called STOMP. Lucy was very active in her community; she was a volunteer parent for the Irvington School system and Irvington*s Pop Warner Football. Lucy enjoyed bowling and was an original member of the Emeralds Bowling Team from 1949 until the late 1980*s. Lucy was considered to be the anchor of the team and had a 200 average. Lucy also enjoyed her frequent trips to Atlantic City. A time to rest: On Sunday morning, October 24th at 9:45 Lucy Brown said I am ready. I fought a good fight. I have kept the faith. I have finished my course. Lord I am coming home! Forever in our hearts: Lucy's leaves her family who will always cherish her precious memories; Benjamin C. Brown, Clement Brown (nephews), Linda Clark, Tywanna Clark-White (nieces); Hakim Newsome, Kenya Brown (Hicks), Kareem Brown, Cornelius Rogers, Dalone Rogers, Sadiqua Williams, Haleem Abdullah, Fatir Abdullah (great nephews & nieces) and a host of other family and friends.
