Ms. Doane was a very special part of my education in Rutland. I always looked forward to art classes and her loving ways of making each student feel like an artist. She was my art teacher throughout grade school and then when I did my student teaching with Ms. Mumford, I had the privelege of working alongside of three of my grade school teachers: Ms. Mumford, Mrs. Carrigan, and Ms. Doane. We had great times reminiscing our early days together. They were my...

It is with a surge of fond memories that I write this in honor of a wonderful woman who made every student feel special.
Let us look to the heavens as Miss Doane will be adding color and highlighting the skies from now on.

Dear Miss Doane was a wonderful teacher. I had her for every year that I attended Park Street School in Rutland. We always looked forward to her day to visit and teach us about art. I was not very talented but she always made me feel that I could do a project whether I could or not. I enjoyed her and will never forget her.

With fond memories of Miss Doane's art classes at Park Street Elementary School in Rutland, Vt., I'll never forgot the one special lesson she taught me in second grade..."you never have a mistake... take that line and make something new of it"...one that I remembered and applied to life! I've treasured the one small sketch she made in my autograph book a few years latter when she signed it for me! She was a very special lady! My condolences to her family...we, her students, know what a...

Lucy Doane was my art teacher from 7th grade to 12th. I loved her class and made sure to sign up for it each year. She was supportive and a wonderful teacher, with a dry wit that was very welcome in class. I learned so much about art from this lady. Good travels, Lucy. (Class of '68)

Lucy Doane was one of the nicest teacher I had . I wish my daughter and granddaughters had had her for a teacher, as they all are good in the art field. Trudi (Aldridge) Cameron RHS Class of '64

Lucy Doane was the reason I became a painter. She personified art.

When I was a pupil at Rutland's Dana School in the 1950s, Tuesday afternoons were reserved for art. I believe every kid in school looked eagerly forward to Miss Doane's arrival. There was never a lesson or exercise that she introduced that failed to grip us. She encouraged and coached every kid and every effort. We learned much, we grew, and we all owe a debt to Lucy Doane. May she rest well!
