Menk, Lucy (Moran) Lofgren, 85, of West Barnet, VT and Sun City, AZ passed away on September 23, 2003, at her home in West Barnet, surrounded by family. Lucy was a teacher and guidance counselor in Weymouth, MA and then in Weston, MA, until her retirement. Much loved by friends and family members, she is remembered as a perennial optimist, world traveler, avid bridge player, gracious hostess, and enthusiastic collector of things she found beautiful.
She was predeceased by her brother, Porter Moran, her son Walter Lofgren, her first husband Carl Lofgren, and step-children Meredith Culp and Glen Menk.
Survivors include her husband, Sidney, daughter and son-in-law Karen and Gary Zimmer of Storrs, CT., grandson Jesse Zimmer and his family in Quebec, Canada, grandsons Noah and Adam Zimmer of Storrs, CT., stepson Tim Menk and his partner Gene Kersey of South Ryegate, VT., son-in-law Joel Culp and grandchildren Jamie and Rachel of Kent. OH.
Lucy was a proud alumna of St. Lawrence University. In addition to her tenure as guidance counselor, Lucy taught for a year in Shrewsbury, England, on a Fulbright exchange program.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, October 4, at 11:00 a.m. at the Peacham Congregational Church in Peacham, VT. Rev Rebecca Maccini, Rev John Sanderson and Dr. Dwight White will officiate. Donations may be made in Lucy’s memory to Caledonia Home Health and Hospice, P.O. Box 383, St. Johnsbury, VT 05819, the American Cancer Society, 13 Loomis Street, Montpelier, VT 05602 or St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. 13617 for the general scholarship fund.

It is always so difficult to know what to say when serious illness claims someone as charming and intelligent as Lucy. We embrace the end of her suffering but do not resign ourselves to her absence. Those of us who did not know her well will regret not having had the opportunity to spend more time with her.
