The Christian Benevolent Funeral Home, Inc., announces with the deepest sympathy the transition of Mrs. Lucy E. Thomas.


Mrs. Lucy Elizabeth Robinson Thomas was born on November 10, 1923 to the union of Mr. Alec and Mary Robinson of Sunflower Alabama. She was raised by her Uncle and Aunt, Mr. Jewel and Mrs. Fannie Taylor of Mobile, Alabama.  She was the only girl, protected by three brothers, Charlie, Agee, and Hamp Robinson. She was educated in the Mobile County School System. After graduating from high school, she met and fell in love with Mr. Howard L. Thomas. They married in April 1940. To this union there were eight beautiful children.


Terms of endearment for Lucy were, Momma, Madear, Gamm, Lou Dawg, Grand Mama, Sugar-Lump, Lil Girl, LuLu, Catfish, Brim, Gator, Crocodile.


She would always tell us, to be kind, to be loving, sweet and talk lovingly to everyone. She loved people. She was a giver, not of just money but of her time and love. She loved her family and her community. She was known as the “Candy Lady” and best known for her delicious pineapple freeze cups.


 Who can find a Virtuous woman? Mrs. Lucy was a Proverbs 31: women, she exemplified this in every area of her life and taught her daughters, granddaughters and any lady that crossed her path.  She was a faithful life- long member of Union Missionary Baptist Church. This angel received her wings on Monday, January 3, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, Her husband Howard, three brothers, Charlie, Hamp, and Agee. 2 children Richard Don and Tonya Temecia, 4 grandchildren, Andrea Harris, Anthony Pettaway, Kelvin Jones and Tanya Cunningham.  Proceeded in death by her eldest daughter Annie Coleman. She leaves to cherish her amazing memories, five devoted daughters, Mrs. Delores (Nathaniel) Pettaway, Jr, Evelyn Hunter, Deborah Jordan, Mrs. Novelyn (Willie) Jones and Andreta Fischer. A son in law, Mr. Troy Bryant. Twenty-four grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, and 40 great-great grandchildren. Loving life-long friends, Antoinette Singleton, Helen Porter and Mr. & Mrs.  Tommie Stevenson, Mrs. Ruth Ballard and the Salem Family.  She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other close family and friends.

I was saddened to hear of Mrs. Lucy's passing, but so grateful that I was able to visit her with my daughter and granddaughter before covid. I told them about her and the freeze cups. I say goodbye to another Lincoln Street angel as I shout Victory.
