LUIS CHAVEZ MARMOLEJO, a lifelong resident of Las Cruces, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at La Posada Mesilla Valley Hospice, surrounded by his beloved family. He was 64. Born July 14, 1961, Luis was the proud son of Mercedes J. Chavez and Pedro G. Marmolejo. He lived a life marked by service, dedication, and deep love for his family and community.


Luis honorably served his country in the United States Navy, embodying the values of duty and patriotism. Following his military service, he continued his commitment to public service through his work with the County of Doña Ana, where he retired as a Senior Planner. His contributions helped shape the future of his hometown, and his legacy will continue to be felt for generations.


Above all, Luis was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend. The love he held for his family was immeasurable and unwavering. He is survived by his daughter, Sonja Clark and her husband Patrick; his son, Pedro Luis Marmolejo and his wife Alexis; his brother, Cesar Atyde and wife Michelle; and his sisters, Hilda Olivas and husband Frank, and Gloria Marmolejo. He also leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren: Sabrina, Salma, Olivia, Vanessa, Isaac, Cali, and Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Pedro “Pete” Marmolejo; and sister, Sylvia Pelkey.


Visitation for Mr. Marmolejo will begin at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 18, 2025, at Baca's Funeral Chapel, located at 300 E. Boutz Road. The Funeral Liturgy will follow at 11:00 AM. In accordance with his wishes, cremation will take place following the service, and inurnment of his cremains will be held at a later date. Military honor will be accorded by the United States Navy Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League - El Perro Diablo Detachment


Luis will be remembered for his quiet strength, generous heart, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
