Mr. Matthews was such a wonderful teacher and friend and his classes were the reason I actually liked school. He was my favorite teacher! He taught so much more than music and had a gift for making us laugh. I can only imagine how many young lives he touched. Sincerest sympathies to his family.

He was such an amazing man and amazing mentor in music education. He will surely be missed. I always enjoyed when he would get mad in German!! Prayers are with his family at this time of mourning such an inspirational man.

I had Mr Matthews for a band teacher from grade school until i graduated. I also took private from him. He inspired my love for music and for the Carroll high school band. I will forever misses you and cherish the lessons you taught me , and that I in turn taught my children. RIP. Forever your student MS SCHENK

Mr. Matthews was the best teacher I ever had. He was a great man. He taught more than music, he taught respect. My sympathy to his family, he must have been and incredible husband and father, I'm sure he will be missed.

Mr. Matthew was such a wonderful teacher...I missed him greatly when he left Carroll. Whenever I hear anyone speak German he always comes into my thoughts. I will always fondly remember the flying batons and the many that were broken when he would get overly zealous! My condolences to his family, he will be greatly missed by all his past students

I owe all of my musical ability to Mr. Matthew. What a great teacher and music mentor. I was just reminiscing and telling my kids about my flute/band years. My prayers to his family.
