Bonnie Annalura Wellborn Smith was born on January 1, 1922 in Wingate, Texas and was welcomed home into the kingdom of Heaven March 17, 2016. She was known by many names; Lura, Mama, Mother, and Granny. Mrs. Smith was educated and raised all over most of East Texas. As the daughter of a farmer, her family moved around a lot, until she landed in Wingate, Texas where she met her future husband Marvin Russell Smith Jr., when his family came by to invite them to church. In the 1950's, they made their home in Midland, Texas where they were married for 49 years and raised 4 children. Lura was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Jim Wellborn; her husband, Marvin Russell Smith Jr.; her in-laws, Grace and Marvin Russell Smith Sr. She is also preceded in death by her six brothers and three sisters, all of whom she loved dearly. She is survived by her daughter, Laveda McNeil and her husband Dell of Covington, Louisiana; daughter, Jennifer Buck of Midland, TX; daughter, Mary Seay Brockett and her husband Hall of Midland, TX; and son, Douglas Smith and his wife Pat of Hot Springs, Arkansas. Granny lived a full and abundant life, filled with church activities and friends at Wilshire Park Baptist Church, almost as often as it was filled with grandchildren. Granny has 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Lura has a big extended family full of nieces, nephews and cousins that she loved with her whole heart. Lura Smith was a lot of things. She was devoted - to her Lord, to her family and her garden. Lura was always there when she was needed, a good cook, hard worker, a story-teller, and loved looking at old pictures. She was her grandchildren's favorite person. She will be missed here, but Heaven rejoices for she has come home. Memorials may be directed to Wilshire Park Baptist Church. A Gathering and Receiving of friends will be held Thursday, March 24, 2016 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM, at Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home.
