ALLEN, Mr. Luther Shellwood Jr. "Sonny," age 72, of Mechanicsville, Va., was called to rest October 18, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Allen Sr. and Mary W. Allen. He leaves to cherish his wife, Gloria Allen; sons, Larry James of Richmond and Luther S. Allen III (Jacqueline) of Norfolk, Va.; daughter, Adriane Henderson (Darryl); five grandchildren, Larry Jr., Kaelani, Michael, Victoria and Sonata; three great-grandchildren; six sisters, Lorine Jordan, Mary Johnson, Florence Robinson (Archie), Jeanette Jones, Hazel Allen and Marilyn Royster; two brothers, Melvin Allen (Louise) and Harry Allen (Barbara); aunt, Alberta Waller; sister-in-law, Verna Turner (Carroll); brothers-in law, Harold Charity Sr. (Beverly), Deuteronomy Charity Jr. (Eva) and Duke Charity (Rosemary); godson, Jamaal Charity; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Luther was employed at Philip Morris for 39 years. He accepted Christ and joined Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church at an early age. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St., where the family will receive friends Wednesday (tonight) from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and where homegoing services will be held Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 11 a.m. Rev. Dr. Vincent Smith officiating. Rev. Luther S. Allen III, eulogist. Burial Washington Memorial Park.
