Peterson, Luther Howard age 75, passed away on Thursday evening, December 21, 2006, at the Long Term Care Center in Northfield. Luther was a pilot for Northwest Airlines for 33 years beginning his career in the DC-4 and retiring on the DC-10 in 1991. He was also a fighter pilot in the US Navy and Naval Reserves. He and his wife Joan were long time residents of Deephaven and spent their retirement years on Whidbey Island, WA. Dad will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, gourmet cooking, golf, college football, household projects and especially his love of family. Our fondest memories include the many family traditions he inspired - building a giant gingerbread house at Christmas, creating elaborate costumers for Halloween, surprise trips to places like Disneyland or Yellowstone, countless hunting and fishing trips (especially our summers spent fishing the Kenai River in Alaska). Dad often commented that he had the life that little boys dream of. We will miss you dearly. Luther is survived by his children, Eric and wife Susie of San Antonio, Kristin Bell and husband Brad of Northfield, Laura Cowley and husband Dermot of Watertown; grandchildren, Jason, Connor, Nicole, Connor Roe, Ryan and Matthew; sister, Arla Adams and husband John of Mound; brother-in-law, Jerry Roe and wife Mimi of Omaha; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Luther was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; his parents, Millie and Elmer; brother, Elmer; granddaughter, Dorothy. The family is planning a private interment in Seattle. Dear Eric, Kristen and Laura,
I join so many others in expressing my condolences to your family. You father was always a gentleman and always the consumate professional pilot and a pleasure to work with. I was both a second officer as well as a co-pilot with your dad - many trips to Alaska. One trip Kristen was along and I had my younger son Andrew. We had rented a car and headed for the Kenai. I have a picture of Kristen and Andrew standing in a stream surrounded by salmon. He was a...

We all just lost one of the rare breed. Family first and foremost. A guy of few words, all worth heeding. You've mentioned that he often remarked: "I've lived the life that little boys dream of." I believe little boys should dream of the life Luther lived. Our sincerest condolences

We have so many fond memories of fishing with your dad in Alaska. They are some of my all-time favorite memories and make me smile every time I think about them. Your dad was an amazing person and we consider ourselves lucky to have been able to work with and spend time with him.

Luther was one of the first Captains I flew with. Like several of my classmates, he was our "role model Captain". We will all miss him.

I only knew Luther a very short time and I just wish that I could have known him a lot longer. He was the kind of person you're lucky to have as a friend. He had a great philosophy on life and family. We need more like him in the world.

Dear Eric, Kristin and Laura,
I am so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. It hits close to my heart, as your dad was such a reminder of mine. The last time I saw your dad was at my dad's wake, and his tears were very genuine over the loss of his friend. I imagine that they are together now, catching up and making plans for new adventures. I will always remember your dad's voice and laughter, and the fact that he always had a smile on his face. He was a gentle and kind man, and I...

Eric, Kristen and Laura, I have lost a wonderful friend of 49 years and you a great Dad! He loved all of you so very much and was so proud of you three
and spouses and grandchildren. I always remember him saying I give and buy for my children so they may
enjoy now and I enjoy seeing them
have it instead of after I am dead.
I see Luther and Bill playing blackjack
every day and Bud and Charlie Wright,John Madden and Jack Stewart
sitting in now and then.I appreciate him...
