Weatherhead Young Funeral Home Obituary

Weatherhead Young Funeral Home - 885 Mantoloking Rd. Brick, NJ 08723

Lydia Carpiniello Gilligan, a cherished mother to Neil, Michael, and Lori, peacefully joined the Lord on January 10, 2024, after bravely facing an extended illness.

Lydia leaves behind a legacy of love, touching the lives of many. She is survived by her daughter-in-laws, Clare and Dawn, her grandchildren and their significant others: Kelsey (Rocco Palmieri) and Shane (Jackie Paek), Emily and Ian, and Aiden and Mikaila Mize. Lydia is also survived by her sister-in-laws, Janice Carpiniello and Carolyn Gilligan, along with her nephew and numerous nieces, cousins, and her two dearest friends, Evey Mulcahey and Pat Napolitano.

Lydia is predeceased by her parents, John Carpinello and Catherine Sacco Carpinello and her brother Athony Carpiniello.

Born in South Beach, Staten Island, in 1942, Lydia later resided in Grant City before making New Jersey her home in 1968. A long-time resident of Brick, New Jersey, the Gilligan Family was an integral part of the original Robbins Court/Street crew, where neighbors were considered family.

Lydia devoted her early years to being a dedicated stay-at-home mom, focusing on the upbringing of her three beloved children. She found joy in being an active member of Saint Dominic’s Renew Group, the Ocean Lanes Bowling League, and cherished her decades of fellowship through Lois.

In the later chapters of her life, Lydia co-owned a successful local cleaning business catering to the elderly and eventually retired from Costco in Brick, where she served as the vigilant guardian of the front door. Those who knew her can attest to her vibrant spirit and unwavering commitment to her community.

Lydia's retirement allowed her to relish precious moments with her grandchildren, attending their numerous sporting events and other activities. She also embraced adventures with friends and solo escapades, finding joy in every experience.

A resilient and compassionate soul, Lydia approached life with a positive outlook, demonstrating that one can overcome any challenge with faith and strength. She was a beacon of encouragement, teaching us to navigate life's trials with God leading the way, One Day at a Time.

Services shall take place on Sunday, January 14, 2024, from 12 pm to 4 pm at Weatherhead Young Funeral Home, located at 885 Mantoloking Road, Brick, NJ, 08723.  To send condolences to her family please visit: www.weatherheadyoung.com

Liesa, a fellow neighbor of the original Robbins Court/Street crew, is currently in need of our collective support.  Making a contribution in Lydia's memory would be a heartfelt tribute to her, reflecting the caring spirit that Lydia exemplified throughout her life. Your generosity will go a long way in helping Liesa during this challenging time, and it would be a meaningful way to honor the legacy of her "Aunt" Lydia.
