So sad to hear that this amazing man has left us. But he left me with so many great memories and experiences! He encouraged me to take up the trombone as a junior so I could join the marching band. I also played in steel band and have so many wonderful memories from that experience. His encouragement definitely helped me along the way.

I was so very sorry to learn of Lylburns death. I was his secretary at Mercer Island High School for 10 years and there never was a kinder more gentle person to work with than Lylburn. His compassion and caring for students and faculty was magnanimous. His passion for music he passed on to all his students whom he taught in the Mercer Island School district, my three children most definitely! My deepest sympathy to all the Layer family.
