I first learned about Lyle Bouck when I read the book "The Longest Winter". I became an instant fan of the man. A true American hero.

This is a photo of Terry Burns, and Kevin Thiesen with Lyle Bouck, taken on Nov 8, 2016 (Election Day) when Kevin and I attended the monthly lunch meeting of the VBOB in Affton, and then went to visit Mr Bouck. We were so honored to be able to meet him and thank him for his heroic service to this country. He was a true American Hero. I recommend reading the book "The Longest Winter" by Alex Kershaw to fully understand what Lt. Bouck gave to this country. Remarkable.

My father was in the 99th although the two of them didn't meet until after the war at reunions. They both attended the 25th anniversary trip back to Belgium and he had kind things to say about my father. He and I also met after I went on a BOB tour and we had a great visit. I showed him my album, including the field where his platoon performed heroically, and the tavern where he was taken after capture. I'm so glad we got to meet.

I recently read the book "The Longest Winter" by Alex Kershaw after my renewed interest in learning about our Greatest Generation and all that they sacrificed for our country. Lt Lyle Bouck was the truest American hero. I highly recommend the book to everyone so that they may learn what our brave soldiers experienced and endured during WWII. A good friend of mine, Kevin Thiesen (a passionate military historian himself), recently attended the monthly meeting of the Veterans of the Battle of...

I always admired Dr.Bouck, he was a "man's man". I have known him for about 40 years and he never mentioned his history in arm services, but a book written by Alex Kershaw "The Longest Winter" tells all.
Thank you for allowing me to be your friend.
