Lyle I. Schroeder
November 2, 1946 ~ September 7, 2020
Age ~ 73
Lyle I. Schroeder, age 73, of the Town of Three Lakes, passed away at his home and in the arms of his son Nick, on Monday, September 7, 2020 and under the care of Ascension at Home Hospice.
Lyle was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on Saturday, November 2, 1946 to Woodrow A. and Phyllis L. Schroeder. He was raised in Green Bay. Lyle enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country in the U.S. Special Forces during the Vietnam War. During his time in Vietnam Lyle was missing in action for thirty-one days. He returned to Green Bay and was united in marriage to Renee Stewart. The couple were married for over twenty years and later were divorced. He was employed as a Rigger for an Oil Company in Texas until being injured on the job. His injuries were so severe that he could no longer walk or work. He was told he would never walk again but when he saw his son Nicholas take his first steps, he willed himself to begin the journey back to walking. His perseverance was a true testament to his life. Lyle along with his son Nick have lived in Oneida County since 2000.
Lyle enjoyed riding his Harley and attending the yearly Sturgis bike rally. Even if the fish weren’t biting, Lyle enjoyed being on the pontoon boat on Big Lake. He also enjoyed in his younger years fishing on Cranberry Lake in Prentice. But most of all, Lyle enjoyed spending time with his friends and his family.
Surviving is his loving son; Nicholas L. Schroeder Sr. of Three Lakes, grandson; Nicholas L. Schroeder Jr. of Lac du Flambeau, two sisters; Sandy and Jen a.k.a. “the Squirrel” both of Madison and his former wife Renee Stewart. Also surviving are other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
The visitation for Lyle will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at the Hildebrand Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until the 1:00 p.m. Celebration of Life Service.
Immediately following the Celebration of Life, Military Honors will be conducted by the Ray Rousseau V.F.W. Post 3143 and by two representatives from the United States Army.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Lyle’s son, Nick would be appreciated.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hildebrand Funeral Home & Cremation Specialists, 24 E. Davenport Street, Rhinelander, Wisconsin 54501, 715-365-4343. You are invited to sign the guestbook or leave an online condolence at www.hildebrandrussfh.com
