NEW LONDON, NH Lyle Leonard Schubert, 82 of New London NH (formerly of Framingham , MA) passed away at home with his family by his side on June 17th 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Fruitland, Idaho on May 21st 1927. He was the son of Leander Ray Schubert and Helen (Peters) Schubert. Lyle attended Fruitland schools , graduating in 1945 as the valedictorian of his class. After his graduation he joined the Navy. During World War II , Lyle played music with the 1st District US Navy Band in Boston, and at-sea on the USS Worcester cruiser. Lyle graduated from Harvard in 1953 and worked for several engineering firms as a Civil engineer until his retirement in 2001. He always remained active in music both instrumentally and as a singer. He was a past member of the 567th Air Force Band, the Melchiori's Dixieland Hobo's, The Roma Band of Boston, The Nobscot Brass Quintet, The Sudbury Savoyards and also Gilbert and Sullivan productions. When he retired to New London, NH , Lyle joined two local concert bands: The Kearsarge Community Band and The Hopkinton Town Band, for whom he most often played trombone and tuba. He was a member of the New Orleans Jazz Band and The Granite State Stompers which he joined in 2003. For the next 5 years the magnificent tone of his C tuba filled the halls at engagements in New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts. He was a highly accomplished musician and singer, he could play and sing in any key. The instruments that he was a master of were tuba, string bass and trombone. He is survived by Jane (Manuel) Schubert, his wife of 57 years. Daughter, Ann (Schubert) Turner and husband Kirk of Plymouth, VT. Daughter, Joan Schubert and husband Philippe Lambert of Marrietta, GA. Daughter, Deborah (Schubert) Gosselin and husband Thomas of Rye, NH. Son, Charles David Schubert and wife Veronica of Newbury, NH. Grandchildren, Nicholas Turner, Garret Turner, Maxime Lambert, Christopher Schubert and Michael Schubert. He is also survived by his brother Arlon Schubert of Fresno, CA. Neil Schubert of Glendora, CA and sister, Sharlene Schubert of Fresno, CA. as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Cecil Schubert and grandson, Alexander Turner. Calling hours will be held at the Chadwick's Funeral Home, 235 Main Street, New London, NH on Monday June 22nd from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Bradford, Bradford NH on June 23rd at 11am to be followed by a reception at the church. Burial will be on Wednesday June 24th at Pine Hill Cemetary in Dover NH at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Lake Sunapee Region Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, P.O.
